UPCYCLING

KOVALAM, INDIA

Imagine the roof of a small school in India being transformed into a mini skate park made entirely out of trash and recycled materials... A group of high school students from Brugges, Belgium joined Indian students in constructing a completely upcycled skate park from rubbish found in the local community and on the local beaches. The construction was led by Holystoked and 2er's Baumi Baumsen and Atita Verghese. Vans Shoes supported the project by donating 50 pairs of new skate shoes for the inauguration of the Kovalam Skate Club and the very first skate park in the Indian state of Kerala.

The project meant to demonstrate the transformational power of rubbish and was a cross-cultural exchange between kids from different socio-economic statuses and cultures.
