VOLUNTEER WITH US!

Are you passionate about creating audiovisual productions and impact storytelling? Join us in Perú!

Every year, we produce a traveling audiovisual and creative arts festival called Festival Somos Mar that tours public schools in artisanal fishing villages along the northern coast of Peru. The festival serves to celebrate these incredible yet critically overlooked communities in which we work and illustrate the interdependence between humans and nature.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for skilled filmmakers, photographers, editors, designers, artists, and muralists interested in co-creation and participatory processes who want to join in June 2022 for Festival Somos Mar during the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries & Aquaculture (IYAFA)

This volunteer opportunity aims to support audiovisual and creative artists to build upon their experiences and portfolios while providing a platform for learning new communication skills through the guidance of audiovisual artists and nonprofit directors. We provide a safe space for cultural exchange where local artists collaborate with volunteers from all over the world and our professional interdisciplinary team. Through participating in our volunteer program, participants will gain hands-on experience in:

  •          Co-creating artistic content with community members

  •          Documentary and nonfiction creative storytelling and filmmaking

  •          Edition and grassroots communication

  •          Cinematography and camera operation

  •          Community journalism and science communication

Selection for volunteering with us is competitive. We have the capacity to hold space for six people. Our numbers are limited so that we are able to provide a quality experience for both volunteers and community members. If you are interested in joining us, please fill out our application. We will get back to you shortly to schedule an interview. If you plan to come with a partner and have your own equipment, there is a higher probability of being selected. Basic Spanish is required.

Our volunteer opportunity requires a fee to be paid by the volunteer that includes your full-on accommodations. The contribution also is a means for Coast 2 Coast to facilitate more festivals and free audiovisual workshops for rural youth in fishing communities in Peru and internationally.

What Past Volunteers say:

Tatiana   ///   Argentina

"My name is Tatiana and I'm from Argentina. My time volunteering for Coast 2 Coast back in 2019 gave me a great opportunity to work closely with a group of diverse and passionate people, but not only that also with the community, the Fishermans and the kids in the town.

The range of volunteers and directors that were in Lobitos for Festival Somos Mar, brought unique skillsets and perspectives to the projects that we were working on and created a fun and empathetic working environment.

Besides the amazing work Coast2Coast did that year and do everyday, I found the people and Lobitos itself to be welcoming and enchanting which has made it one of my favorite places I’ve visited in Perú and I'll be always grateful to Emi and Nico for that amazing experience."
